Article Highlight: Taxes Explained: What are they and how do they work? By Ziad Mounadi

Almost everyone knows what taxes are: money taken from people and businesses for the government to fund public services and infrastructure. However, taxes remain a confusing topic in the US, with many people unclear about the expectations as they begin their independent financial journeys. From Sales tax interjecting into everyone’s everyday life, Payroll taxes funding social security, Income taxes taking a portion of people’s paychecks, to Property taxes being paid on real estate purchases, the whole idea of how taxes work is still a blur for many. Dyson was founded in 1993 by James Dyson, and the brand has since become a global leader in household appliances. It all started because James Dyson was dissatisfied with traditional vacuum cleaners, as they lost suction due to their clogged bags. This issue led him to create and test 5,127 prototypes over 5 years for the first bagless vacuum cleaner. Before launching his product, he faced criticism from many established brands, as they thought the bagless idea wouldn’t be as profitable. Despite this, James Dyson launched his vacuum in Japan in 1983 under the name G-Force. Now, Dyson is a very popular brand, still creating vacuums but having other fan-favourites such as the Dyson Air Wrap and their range of coolers and humidifiers.

Term of the Month: Credit Score

A credit score is a numerical representation of someones “creditworthiness”, which is based on their credit history and previous financial behaviours. This score helps lenders dictate whether an individual is likely to repay their loans in a timely manner, and it also influences decisions such as loan approvals, credit card limits, interest rates, rental applications and even employment.
